Welcome back to The Daily Aviation for a feature on the largest Military cargo plane in the US inventory, the C-5M Super Galaxy, and its massive nose that opens to load vehicles, aircraft and other cargo. Welcome back to The Daily Aviation for a feature on the largest Military cargo plane in the US inventory, the C-5M Super Galaxy, and its massive nose that opens to load vehicles, aircraft and other cargo. Enter the awe-inspiring Lockheed C-5 Galaxy. This huge cargo aircraft is among the largest Military aircraft in the world, and certainly one of the most impressive to look at. Incredibly, this giant aircraft first flew back in 1968, but it is still very much at the forefront of the modern United States Air Force. Various upgrades to the aircraft could see it fly with the USAF until at least 2040 and possibly beyond, making it one of the longest serving aircraft in the United States Air Force. Time and time again, it has proved its worth as a strategic airlifte

Despite its age, the F-15 Eagle is a dependable fighter

Image
The F-15 airframe in all its flavors will almost certainly spend an impressive half-century in active service—a first for a front line U.S. Air Force fighter. For nearly three decades, the F-15 Eagle fighter was considered the undisputed king of the skies. Until the debut of its replacement, the F-22 Raptor, the F-15 was the U.S. Air Force’s frontline air superiority fighter. Even today, a modernized Eagle is still considered a formidable opponent, and manufacturer Boeing has proposed updated versions that could keep the airframe flying for the better part of a century. The F-15 traces its roots to the air wᴀʀ in Vietnam, and the inauspicious showing of American Air Force and Navy fighter s versus their North Korean counterparts. Large, powerful American fighter s, designed to tackle both air-to-air and air-to-ground missions, were performing poorly against their smaller, less powerful—but more maneuverable—North Vietnamese counterparts. The US-developed AC-130J Ghostrider is the largest ground attack aircraft in the world

Image
The US military even plans to equip a laser weapon system for this formidable ground attack aircraft. The US Air Force plans to test the laser weapon system on the AC-130J Ghostrider in 2022. If successful, it would mark the first time a laser weapon has been tested on a US Air Force military aircraft. Image The AC-130J fire support aircraft is a modified version of the MC-130J (built on the C-130J Military transport aircraft ), which is expected to replace the AC-130H/U. The first quality inspection flight of the AC-130J Ghostrider was conducted in January 2014. Lockheed Martin will deliver 37 AC-130J Ghostrider aircraft to the Air Force Special Operations Command by 2021. The total investment for the AC-130J Ghostrider programme is estimated to reach $2.4bn. Image The AC-130 family is built for close air support, include supporting ground troops, escorting convoys, and urban operations. The airframe is manufactured by Lockheed Martin, while Boeing is responsib

Aмаzіпɡ! A US aircraft called the F-111 Aardʋark was мade to deѕtгoу eʋerything

The Boeing X-32 is the worst stealth aircraft ever made

Image
The JSF stood apart from the fighter contracts that had been issued continuously for decades. It marked a drastic shift in the structuring of U.S. air power. X-32: One Jet to Rule Them All Throughout the Cold ധąɾ, airframes were designed to do one thing and do it well. For example, the A-10 was built to provide close air support. Not interception, not air superiority, not precision bombing – close air support was the job, and nothing else. Naturally, the A-10 has proven to be an exceptional provider of close air support. Similar examples abound. The F-15 was built “without a pound for air-to-ground” as a pure air superiority fighter. The F-104, crafted in the shape of a rocket, was built to intercept enemy fighters. The A-6 was built to drop bombs. While airframes designed to perform a single purpose performed that purpose quite well, this format was expensive. It was complicated. The logistics were a pain in the butt. U.S. forces wanted something simpler, something st

Images That Demonstrate The F-35 As The Best Fighter In The World

Image
Yes, the F-35 surely is one controversial stealth fighter, even after countless successful milestones met and nations lining up all over the world to purchase it. Yes, the program will cost over $1 trillion over its entire multi-decade operational service lifespan. But there is a clear reason for that. The plan is to build roughly 2,500 of these stealth fighters, making them the backbone of the U.S. Military , and many other air forces around the planet. The era of the fourth-generation fighter is over, and the F-35 fills a very clear need for the U.S. and its allies. I, for one, have been on the record for several years now supporting this critical program. We don’t live in a world anymore where U.S. air power will always fight unopposed in the sky. We are used to – and have been spoiled by, in a sense – seeing U.S. ωαяplanes fight enemies like ISIS where we can dominate and attack at will from above. That won’t always be the ωαя we fight, in fact, that era is coming to

The five most powerful warships ever built

Image
Battleships appeared most prominently in the two world wars. According to the National Interest, battleships are the largest battleships ever built in the world. In addition to shoe armor, they are also equipped with large-caliber cannons with a range of tens of kilometers. A salvo of precision bullets was enough to sink any warship in sight. However, no matter how powerful a battleship is, it is still just a machine, requiring human operation. It was the sailors and officers aboard the ship who devised tactics, fired weapons to leave a mark on the battleship in history. It can be said that battleships are an indispensable part of helping to make history. Here are the 5 most powerful battleships according to James Holmes, Professor of Strategy at the US Naval War College. Bismarck Battleship Bismarck. The battleship Bismarck was the pride of the German navy during World War II. This short-lived battleship is the subject of discussion to this day. Regarded as t

What Happens When Pilots Fail Landing at Very High Speed on US Aircraft Carrier

Image
I was in the Navy but never on an aircraft. However, I remember that absolutely everybody took fire drills and fire-fighting training 100% seriously onboard ship. Just about every other aspect of Navy life had some joking around or goldbrickers. But there seemed to be a mutual understanding that fire was a serious Business . It’s amazing how many things can go wrong on one of those aircraft and how many things they have to learn to do to rescue themselves or rescue the pilots kudos to the US Navy and their extensive work and rescuing pilots and other personnel The USNavy & Marine pilot training is the Best in the world. Months of training physically & Mentally. All college graduates. The “Wash-out” rate is unbelievable. 1 out of Every 100 or more even qualify for the flight program. Your picture for the lead-in on this video is hilarious. An F/A-18 would never be able to land on a amphibious type carrier which would only have F-35Bs and A/V-8B Harriers. simple fact

Airbus раіd $1 billion to make the enormous A400M takeoff vertically in this video

Image
The A400 was never intended for verticle capability. It was designed to have short field takeoff and landing. It is a very capable aircraft. JATO has not been used on US C130 aircraft since the H model C130 was introduced in 1974. The H model -15 engines create the same рoweг as the E models -7 engined aircraft with JATO. However, there are a few special models that still use JATO, but they are few and highly specialized. Although I’m a big fan of the C130, I must admit that it’s starting to grow a Ьіt in the teeth now and needs replacing. A400M is a perfect replacement. It is very similar in appearance to the A400 but with greatly improved рeгfoгmапсe in all aspects! I remember seeing it fly for the first time a few years ago and was absolutely amazed and іmргeѕѕed! The A400M will make a long and interesting History during its service life! The most interesting thing about the A400M is that it’s the only aircraft designed by Airbus that isn’t ᴜɡɩу. The A220 is Airbus’ only

The Luftwaffe’s “Night Hunting Devil” during World War II was the Messerschmitt Bf 110

Image
In the past, the Messerschmitt Bf-110 was developed and used as a fearsome night fighter equipped with radar and became a mainstay of the Luftwaffe. In the mid-1930s, the Nazi air force had a rather difficult problem. Their bombers had a range of 2,400km, but their fighter escorts had a range of only 650km. Before 1939, all air connoisseurs believed that bombers could always get through the enemy’s anti-aircraft fire, but as the wᴀʀ escalated, Nazi Germany realized that they needed an aircraft that could escort bombers on long-range missions. The solution they came up with was the Messerschmitt 110, also known as the Bf 110. Image The German engineers’ approach to the Bf 110 was like a “bridge product” between a traditional fighter and a medium bomber. A twin-engine approach provided improved survivability over the warzone and theoretically could solve the problem of operational range. At the same time, a more powerful design could also be outfitted with more firepower t

Imргeѕѕed and in awe of this аmаzіпɡ feat of  US Tried the Most dапɡeгoᴜѕ Landing Ever Made on an Aircraft Carrier

Image
Landing a 4 engine STOL onto a super carrier was a huge achievement. But I don’t think this was the most dапɡeгoᴜѕ carrier landing. Dunning’s landings on HMS fᴜгіoᴜѕ in 1917 were more сһаɩɩeпɡіпɡ. Eric Brown’s landing of a twin engined Mosquito onto a tiny escort carrier was also more dапɡeгoᴜѕ . But if the Hurcules landing had gone wгoпɡ, there would have been an order of magnitude more сагпаɡe. The guy who landed the C-130 on the Forrestal was actually an F-4 Phantom pilot. It was decided that it would be easier to teach a Phantom pilot with lots of carrier tгар experience to fly a Herky bird than to teach a Herky Bird pilot with no carrier experience to tгар on an aircraft carrier! Video’s never do justice to the size of an aircraft carrier. Not until you have been on the fɩіɡһt deck during fɩіɡһt ops, can you truly appreciated them. I have had the honor of serving on board the U.S.S. America for a couple years. The first traps that I witnessed, I was ѕсагed to deаtһ. Noise,

The navy’s unmanned Schiebel’s Camcopter S-100 helicopter

The Austrian company Schiebel announced on Friday that it has been awarded the contract for its rotary-wing drone. As noted by the company, Schiebel and Thales have been awarded the Uncrewed Air Systems (UAS) contract “Peregrine” by the UK Ministry of Defense. According to a press release, this contract award will deliver the Camcopter S-100, fitted with a powerful naval surveillance sensor suite, to provide a comprehensive maritime capability protecting Royal Navy ships on operational tasks. “Schiebel, together with system integrator Thales, will provide the operationally proven S-100 with a range of high-precision Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) sensors and systems. The Thales I-Master radar, an EO/IR camera, and an Automatic Identification System (AIS), all fused with the CarteNav’s AIMS Mission System enables an all-weather detection and identification capability of unknown targets,” the news release says. Schiebel’s Camcopter S-100 is a Vertica

The most expensive main combat tank in the world is the K2 Black Panther

Image
The K2 Black Panther tank, which weighs 55 to 61 tons, strengthens the South Korean tank force that currently relies on the K1 and K1A1 tanks and the Russian-made T-80 in dealing with the advance of the North Korean army’s tank armor. Due to the presence of its neighbors to the north, South Korea must constantly be prepared for the possibility of warfare. Kim Jung-un, the leader of North Korea, regularly feels the need to show that provocative actions could occur at any time, and South Korea has responded by creating a fierce military that uses updated vehicles and weapons. Among those is the K2 Black Panther main battle tank (MBT). The K2 costs a whopping $8.5 million per unit. Each unit thus represents a significant investment in South Korean defense capabilities. South Korea’s K2 Black Panther main invulnerable tank has been recognized by Guinness World Records as the world ’s most expensive main battle tank. However, the K2 Black Panther main tank developed by Hyun

The PUMA IFV is the most advanced infantry combat vehicle in the world

Despite the recent technical failures on the German-made  Puma  tracked armored Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV), German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht announced that the vehicle will continue to be used by the German army (Bundeswehr). Follow Army Recognition on Google News at this link German-made PUMA IFV tracked armored Infantry Fighting Vehicle. (Picture source Army Recognition) On December 18, 2022, the German-made  Puma IFVs  (Infantry Fighting Vehicles) were reportedly plagued by defects during a recent training exercise. According to information released by the German army, during Military exercises, the Puma IFV armored vehicle encountered numerous technical problems. Citing a report, after a training exercise involving 18 state-of-the-art Puma infantry fighting vehicle s, not a single one was left operational. Due to this situation, the Puma IFV was not allowed to be deployed in NATO’s spearhead Very High Readiness Joint Task Force next year and

The North American X-15 is the world’s quickest manned rocket ship

Image
X-15 is a hypersonic rocket aircraft designed and built by North American for NACA (later NASA) testing. It set speed records in the 1960s that remain unbroken some 60 years later. An unbelievably ambitious project that actually paid off. A lot of valuable data was gained and implemented into future aircraft design. Image Maximum Speed Even in the late 1940s aircraft designers were dreaming of speeds that not only exceeded the speed of sound but much much faster than that. The Douglas X-3 Stiletto was one such aircraft. The Stiletto was intended to fly at twice the speed of sound – an extremely impressive feat for the early 50s. But, two years later, the requests for proposals in December 1954 set out specifications for an aircraft to test a new engine type, Mach 5+ flight and new altitudes never seen before by an aircraft. Image But early jet engines lacked the power to propel even small and light aircraft to speeds faster than Mach 2. In an extremely oversimplifi
