The first time fixed-wing aircraft have flown from a Japanese battleship since World War II occurred on October 3 when two Marine Corps F-35B Lighting II Joint Strike Fighters took off and landed aboard Japan’s biggest cruiser, JS Izumo (DDH-183). Since November 2018, the Japanese government has also announced a plan to upgrade two Izumo-class helicopter destroyers to turn them into mini-carriers carrying more than 12 F-35 stealth fighters. “Ever since we got these ships ( Izumo-class multipurpose destroyer, built in 2015), we’ve wanted to use them for many purposes,” Japanese Defense Minister Takeshi Iwaya told reporters. Boeing has been awarded a $32 million contract by the US Army to remanufacture AH-64 Apache attack helicopters

The Boeing Co., Mesa, Arizona, was awarded a $32,577,153 modification (P00082) to contract W58RGZ-16-C-0023 to incorporate a directed change order for the remanufacture of twelve Boeing AH-64 Apache attack helicopter and six-part numbers for the tail rotor blades. Work will be performed in Mesa, Arizona, with an estimated completion date of Oct. 1, 2024. Fiscal 2021 aircraft procurement (Army) funds in the amount of $33,040,693 were obligated at the time of the award . U.S. Army Contracting Command, Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, is the contract ing activity. The Boeing AH-64 Apache is an American twin-turboshaft attack helicopter with a tailwheel-type landing gear arrangement and a tandem cockpit for a crew of two.
